How to Ease Hip and Leg Pain with a Simple Technique

Perhaps you have experienced random pain down the outside of your thigh, or deep inside the hip socket where you just wish you could reach to massage it away. You may have wondered if it is sciatica or arthritis or bursitis or just muscle strain.
Or maybe you have been to the doctor, but nothing specific can be determined or diagnosed.
You know firsthand how miserable and frustrating this can be.
Years ago I was diagnosed with severe bursitis in the hip socket and was treated accordingly for quite some time. The recurring pain was mitigated by cortisone shots, and by staying off my feet more, elevating my feet whenever possible, and getting plenty of rest. However; I still have flare-ups when I stand a lot or travel long distances by car.
~~~~~ Intense and ongoing pain requires that you consider a trip to the doctor to rule out any serious or threatening condition. Let me assert right off that I am not a physician, and I have no medical training.
But, I have discovered a little trick that alleviates pain for me; pain that seems to be related to the nerves radiating down through the hip and thigh area.
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
Step 1
You need a partner who is willing to massage the affected area.
*** Do not read the word “massage” and decide it will not help. Keep an open mind and give this a try.
Step 2
Dimple Area of Hips - Soft Tissue and Nerve Clusters
Have your partner locate the “dimple” area of the hips. These dimples are located high up on the cheeks of your buttocks, and are a literal bundle of nerves.
See photo to pinpoint.
Step 3
Use your fingertips or have your partner probe to locate the center of the nerve cluster in the tissue of the dimple. This small area, between the large bones of the hip and lower spine, is pliable and soft and can be manipulated.
Press and massage in a circular motion right upon the nerve cluster.
The pad of the thumb is a good instrument for pressing deeply into the soft tissue. More pressure can be applied using the thumb. Fingertips massage more gently.
Step 4
If there is inflammation in the tissue, or on the nerves from an irritant like a ganglion cyst, pressing with the thumb will be painful at first.
Start gently, and gradually increase the pressure. The longer massage is administered, the less pain you will feel with the application of pressure.
Step 5
This localized pain seems to increase when lying abed at night, as well as when standing.
After your massage therapy, take notice of whether or not your pain has lessened.
If yes, then you will have found a small respite from the pain occasionally.
If no, then you have my sincere commiseration.
Step 6
While you are enjoying your massage, encourage your partner to extend the session.
A good overall massage often works wonders for general well being, as well as closeness with your partner!
Enjoy! And good luck!
Additional Tips and Options:
· If you do not have a partner to administer the dimple massage, try a small hand-held massage tool that will gently probe the nerve clusters.
· The heel of the hand can be used to apply more pressure over a larger area. Use care not to press to hard or bruise tender flesh.
· My matchless massage therapist (my husband) often feels a definite knot when he begins to manipulate the nerve clusters. This knot diminishes as the massage progresses. The relief from pain afterward is truly huge!
· Consult a doctor for intense or ongoing pain, especially if accompanied by fever, swelling or redness.
· I am not a medical professional. This article is written from the viewpoint of a fellow pain sufferer.
· While initial pressure will hurt, intense pain from massage is not a good sign. Use some common sense to determine what is enough.
